3rd Quarter 2007, Issue 17 Absolute Imaging News
News You Can Use, from Printer Pro
Greetings!
Labor Day come and gone, already? Yes, and not only that, the third quarter of 2007 is almost over as well, which means it is almost - but not quite - too late to sign up for the quarterly hardware give-away.

The Q/A feature of Absolute Imaging News usually concerns real questions that you all ask. So if you have a nagging question about your document preparation hardware, send it to us. We promise to send an answer in short order, but we may also share the Q-and-A in a future issue.

HP Trade-In Promotion, Part 2
Up to $1250 rebate on printer trade-ins!
Some of you took advantage of last quarter's trade-in promotion, and moved up to a faster, more energy-efficient solution to your document printing requirements. Although that promotion has come and gone, sometimes even better things come for those who wait!

For a limited time, you can get up to $1250 cash back on a new HP Laserjet or Color Laserjet when you trade-in your old laser printer (any brand). HP will even pay for the shipping and responsible recycling of your old printer.

Contact us at 208-882-0193 or hp@printer-pro.com to learn more about this special promotion. This offer ends 1/31/08.

Desktop Laser Printer Give-Away
Enter to Win a Laserjet 1020!
The Laserjet 1020 is an economical and compact performer ideal for a single user. It's a small package, but prints 1200 dpi output at up to 15 pages-per-minute. The input tray holds up to 150 sheets, and the printer will handle anything from a 3-by-5 card to legal-size paper.

Set-up is a snap, and as with any HP Laserjet printer, it comes with a one-year warranty on all parts and labor.

If you're a subscriber to this newsletter, then you're already entered in the Give-Away. If you're not a subscriber, go to our Sign-Up page before midnight, September 30, 2007.

Just watch your in-box on Monday, October 1, 2007. No purchase necessary.

Reusing, Reducing, and Recycling
  To Repair or Replace?
How often do we discard consumer electronics because it is less expensive to replace than to repair? More than we like to admit. So here is a suggestion. That more-than-one-year-old printer may still be under a warranty that you have overlooked, or never knew about in the first place.

Many consumer credit cards have a warranty-doubling benefit when the card is used to purchase consumer electronics. It's a little-known feature, but it can mean the difference between repairing a 1-2 year-old item and keeping it in service vs discarding and replacing it.

For details, check the web site for your credit card company, or look at the fine print on the terms and conditions paperwork that came with the card. And of course, you'll need the proof-of-purchase documents should you decide to take advantage of this benefit.

Got Questions?
  We've got answers!
Q:Our newer Hewlett-Packard laser printers have a toner-saving feature called "Economode." Is it o.k. to leave the printer on this setting all the time? Seems like a good way to make the toner cartridges last longer.

A:The short answer is "no." Economode is great for draft documents and occasional use, but a toner cartridge is more than toner. It is a pretty sophisticated assembly of rollers, blades, drums, gears and 30-40 other parts. Under normal, non-Economode use, the toner will run out before the other components wear out. If Economode is turned on all the time, the cartridge may eventually fail before all the toner is spent-not a good thing.

If you are trying to reduce your toner expense, you might try a quality remanufactured product from a vendor with a good service reputation and return policy.
