HP LaserJet 5L, 6L, 1100, 3100

Included below is the solution to a few common problems associated with this series of HP LaserJet printers. Please give us a call if you need further assistance. We are happy to answer your questions.

Printer Grabs More Than One Sheet

Problem: My printer routinely pulls several sheets of paper at a time through the printer, usually resulting in a jam.

Solution: Several things could account for what are called “multi-pick” errors. First, make sure that the paper stock is not the problem. Paper with a nicked or crinkled leading edge will often result in a multi-pick error. Make sure that the paper in the paper slot is in good condition, or replace it with fresh paper from a different box or ream.

Make sure the paper tray is not over-filled, and that the paper input extenders are in place so that the paper is standing up straight as it is fed into the printer.

Finally, these printers have several sets of pads and rollers that act to prevent multiple pages from feeding at one time. The pads in your printer may be worn and need to be replaced. Contact us, this one is usually a quick and inexpensive repair.

Paper Jams Up Like An Accordion

Problem: Paper is jammed in my printer and I can’t pull it out. The paper is pleated up like the folds of an accordion.

Solution: The paper is probably caught in the fusing assembly, which is a heated roller assembly located in the front of the printer. Open the printer, disconnect the power, and remove the toner cartridge. This may be messy, so have a paper towel or wipe handy.

USING ONLY YOUR HANDS try to pull the paper from the fuser. DO NOT USE TOOLS. The fusing assembly is covered with a thin plastic sheath. Any tools you use will scratch or puncture the sheath, requiring a replacement.

If you cannot remove all the paper manually, contact us.
